New Mexico State University’s Mora County Cooperative Extension Service will host a Comprehensive Agricultural Resilience Event: Addressing Post-Disaster Challenges with the Federal Emergency Management Agency Hermit’s Peak/Calf Canyon Claims and Natural Resources Conservation Service from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on July 18 at VFW Hall, Highway 518, in Mora, New Mexico. Experts and stakeholders will address vital issues facing the agricultural community after recent natural disasters.
The event is free and open to the public and will include hourly panel discussions, interactive booths, and personalized consultations. The panel discussions will also be available virtually over Zoom.
Key presentation topics include identifying crop losses and record keeping; incursion of rodent pests; wildlife management; healthy soil and soil testing; and the onset of problematic invasive weeds.
“By bringing together these specialists, we aim to equip our agricultural community with the knowledge and resources needed to navigate these challenging times,” said Christina Turner, Extension Northern District director.
Experts will be available at interactive booths to provide personalized information and consultations throughout the day. The Hermit’s Peak/Calf Canyon Claims office staff will be present to process agricultural claims. Experts from partnering state and federal agencies will address agricultural and environmental impacts that contributed to the loss of grazing land and water contamination as a result of fires and floods. The state veterinarian will provide insights on filing claims with FEMA.
