Voting is now open for the "Top 20 Most Beautiful Hospitals" in the U.S., and The University of New Mexico Sandoval Regional Medical Center (SRMC) is seeking community support to achieve the top spot. The contest, sponsored by Soliant, a national healthcare staffing firm, recognizes hospitals for their campus development, facilities improvement, staff enhancement, and creation of holistic healing environments.

SRMC is competing against more than 70 hospitals nationwide. The Rio Rancho hospital's notable features include spectacular views of the Sandia Mountains from nearly every patient's room, floor-to-ceiling windows, and its critical role as a Level-III Trauma Center serving rural and Tribal communities.

"We are so excited and honored to be a finalist for most beautiful hospital in the country," said SRMC President Jamie Silva-Steele, RN, BSN, MBA FACHE. "SRMC is truly beautiful both inside and out—from the architecture, art and music to our dedicated team working inside. SRMC is beautiful because its purpose is centered around our patients as well as our staff and providers’ well-being."

Opened in 2012 with an intentional focus on healing design elements, SRMC ensures every patient room has natural light through windows. Nearly floor-to-ceiling windows throughout the hospital offer stunning views for staff, patients, and visitors.

A grand piano donated by State Farm Insurance and Board member Joanna Boothe sits in the first-floor waiting area where local artists regularly perform as part of SRMC's Arts-in-Medicine Program. This program is based on research showing that music and art can reduce stress levels and promote relaxation.

Art pieces from New Mexico’s Native American Tribes adorn the walls alongside works from young upcoming artists. "We’ve been partnering with local elementary schools since 2022," Silva-Steele noted. "Three times a year we rotate the artwork and hold a special ceremony for students and their families to see their pieces displayed at SRMC."

Silva-Steele emphasized that it’s not just aesthetics but also the people who make SRMC special. A close-knit family of healthcare workers cares for patients daily, many from Tribal or underserved rural populations who might otherwise lack access to necessary healthcare services.

"These are the caring hearts that make up the team inside this incredible hospital," Silva-Steele said. "Our SRMC family, our patients, and our building all make SRMC beautiful and special."

Voting for the “Top 20 Most Beautiful Hospitals” runs through July 25th with winners announced on July 31st. The top hospital will receive $5,000 for their foundation.
