ALBUQUERQUE – The City of Albuquerque celebrated the grand opening of the new Santa Barbara Martineztown Multigenerational Center today with a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by Mayor Tim Keller, area elected officials, and community members. Located at 1825 Edith Blvd NE, the facility aims to provide direct access to city services for residents of all ages and serve as a community hub for neighborhood families.
The 5,000-square-foot building features a large multi-purpose space that can be converted into an indoor pickleball court, a computer lab, classroom, warming kitchen, lobby, and office area. Services available include senior meals, out-of-school programs, and various opportunities for fitness, recreation, and social enrichment.
"Folks of all ages benefit from centers like these, designed to be community hubs that create connections between generations,” said Mayor Tim Keller. "We’ll continue investing in the future of our legacy neighborhoods like Santa Barbara Martineztown, making sure families have access to quality facilities and resources close to home.”
Santa Barbara Martineztown is the third multigenerational center operated by the Department of Senior Affairs. The department also manages North Domingo Baca Multigenerational Center in northeast Albuquerque and Manzano Mesa Multigenerational Center in southeast Albuquerque. A fourth multigenerational center is currently under construction in the northwest quadrant near Cibola High School.
“Santa Barbara Martineztown has such a rich cultural history and we are excited to bring our services to the families who call this neighborhood home,” said Anna Sanchez, Director of Senior Affairs. “We can’t wait to see them engaging in our programming and enjoying this wonderful space.”
Construction on the new center began in June 2023 and cost approximately $5 million. Future projects at the site include new playground equipment and various improvements at Santa Barbara Martineztown Park.
