The City of Albuquerque's Department of Arts & Culture (DAC) has announced the hiring of Brandon Gibson as the new director of the ABQ BioPark. Gibson, with over 25 years of experience in programming, youth education, conservation, and project management, will oversee the BioPark's diverse attractions to enhance guest experience, facilities, and conservation efforts.

DAC Director Shelle Sanchez commended Gibson's dedication to conservation, stating, "Brandon has demonstrated his commitment to conservation throughout his career with the City of Albuquerque." Sanchez highlighted Gibson's passion for connecting the community to nature, vision for growth, and collaborative leadership style as assets that will contribute to the BioPark's future success.

Gibson expressed his enthusiasm for the new role, saying, "I’m humbled, excited, and honored to be selected for this role." With a background that includes developing conservation partnerships and innovative animal care programs, Gibson is poised to lead the BioPark into a new chapter of growth and sustainability.

Having previously served as the deputy director for the Department of Arts & Culture, Gibson spearheaded initiatives such as the Zoo-Parks Partnership and the Animal Care Excellence Program. His experience in overseeing various projects, including the construction of key community facilities, demonstrates his capability in managing complex operations.

Gibson's extensive tenure in leadership roles within the City of Albuquerque, managing public lands, nature preserves, and recreational facilities, underscores his commitment to creating equitable and accessible programming for the community. His track record of environmental stewardship and dedication to enhancing the lives of both animals and visitors at the BioPark positions him as a fitting choice for the directorship.

Reflecting on his connection to nature and the BioPark, Gibson shared, "I fell in love with nature working in a greenhouse in my teens, and I’ve seen my own children fall in love with animals and plants at the BioPark." His personal affinity for the natural world aligns with the BioPark's mission of fostering a deeper appreciation for wildlife and conservation efforts.

Brandon Gibson's appointment as the new director of the ABQ BioPark marks a continuation of the institution's commitment to conservation, education, and community engagement under his experienced and dedicated leadership.
