Jessica Perea Houston, a professor of chemical and materials engineering at New Mexico State University, expressed her gratitude after being inducted into the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering College of Fellows. During the formal ceremony in Arlington, Virginia on March 25, Houston stated, “It is an honor to be chosen as part of the 2024 Class of Fellows. I am humbled to be selected and part of this group of top biomedical engineers worldwide.”

The AIMBE College of Fellows is a prestigious recognition, reserved for the top 2% of engineers in the medical and biological fields. Houston's induction was based on her significant contributions to single cell spectroscopy through innovation in instrumentation and software, as well as her international leadership in advancing cytometry. She was nominated, reviewed, and elected by her peers and members of the College of Fellows.

Joining 162 colleagues, Houston became a part of the AIMBE College of Fellows Class of 2024, representing professionals from academia, industry, clinical practice, and government. A graduate of NMSU, Houston has been a faculty member since 2009 and recently completed her second Fulbright Faculty Fellowship. During her fellowship, she engaged in collaborative biomedical research in São Paulo, Brazil, at the Instituto de Quimica Universidade de São Paulo. Their research focuses on potentially impacting cancer research and diagnostics for neurodegenerative disorders.

The achievement marks a significant milestone in Houston's career, recognizing her dedication to the field of biomedical engineering and her commitment to advancing scientific knowledge and innovation. The ceremony was attended by AIMBE officials, including College of Fellow chair Mike King and AIMBE president Joyce Wong, who presented the recognition to Houston.
