The University of New Mexico has solidified its dedication to sustainability by becoming a member of the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE). Anne Jakle, UNM's director of Sustainability, emphasized the university's commitment by stating, "UNM’s strong commitment to sustainability is highlighted by its 2040 Strategic Framework, specifically Goal 4, Sustainability."
AASHE Executive Director Meghan Fay Zahniser expressed gratitude for UNM's partnership, stating, "AASHE counts on the support of progressive institutions like The University of New Mexico to fulfill its mission to inspire and catalyze higher education to lead the global sustainability transformation."
Through this membership, UNM will receive support in advancing its sustainability initiatives across the campus and community. AASHE empowers higher education institutions to achieve their sustainability goals by providing resources, professional development, and a network of peer support and knowledge sharing. This membership covers every individual at UNM, allowing the entire campus community to benefit from the resources available.
Meghan Fay Zahniser encouraged UNM students, faculty, and staff to actively engage with AASHE, stating, "We are happy to have UNM join AASHE and take an active role within this community as we all work to advance sustainability." She also invited individuals to visit the AASHE website and create an account to access member-only resources, free webinars, and discounts on workshops.
AASHE serves as a platform for higher education institutions to translate information into action and equip sustainability leaders with the necessary tools to address global challenges.
