Albuquerque – District 3 City Councilor Klarissa Peña and the Alamosa Neighborhood Association (ANA) recently celebrated the installation of artwork created for Alamosa Park by renowned New Mexican artist Reynaldo ‘Sonny’ Rivera. The artwork, titled "Stalking Her Prey," is a 3 feet tall, bronze mountain lion, a species often seen along the Rio Grande in the area.
"The Alamosa Neighborhood Association has been waiting for this day to come for over a year," expressed Councilor Klarissa Peña. She further highlighted the ANA's active involvement, stating, "The community’s enthusiasm and dedication are captured in 'Stalking Her Prey' by our own Sonny Rivera." Peña also mentioned, "Visitors to Alamosa Park will be pleased by this great work of art."
President of the Alamosa Neighborhood Association, Jeanette Baca, emphasized, "This sculpture by Sonny Rivera is a glowing symbol of our commitment to the beautification of the Southwest Mesa." Baca added, "The artwork’s installation is a result of the collaborative efforts of the City and ANA. We are extremely proud to have this addition to our park and our community."
ANA Board member Johnny Peña praised Sonny Rivera's work, stating, "Sonny Rivera’s work is unique and can be seen around the state, here in Albuquerque and beyond." The City Arts and Culture Department is planning a dedication ceremony to be held on site later.
