The City’s Animal Welfare Department (AWD) has unveiled a new shelter data dashboard aimed at providing community members with a comprehensive overview of the shelter’s daily and weekly activities. The dashboard will showcase information on various aspects such as animal admissions, outcomes, euthanasia, foster care, Copper clinic surgeries, microchips, and Animal Protective Services officer calls.
According to Carolyn Ortega, Director of Animal Welfare Department, "Transparency is very important to AWD." Ortega emphasized that the dashboard is designed to offer critical data to Albuquerque communities, individuals, families, and policymakers. The objective is to encourage collective responsibility for the well-being of pets in the community, support the AWD shelter, and ultimately save more lives.
In the words of Susan Ellis, Deputy Director of AWD, “The term ‘animal shelter’ does not capture the magnitude of services AWD provides or the impact we’ve had in Albuquerque.” Ellis highlighted the importance of data in telling the story of the organization's efforts to create a better environment for families in the city.
The new dashboard is part of AWD's commitment to promoting data transparency and engaging the community in the welfare of shelter animals. By providing insights into the daily operations and outcomes, AWD aims to empower animal lovers and enable Albuquerque communities to play a more active role in saving pets.
To access the new dashboard and learn more about the Animal Welfare Department, community members are encouraged to visit AWD’s Facebook and Instagram pages, watch informative videos, read inspiring stories, or consider volunteering on-site at the facility or becoming a foster parent to a shelter pet.
