The City of Albuquerque has taken a significant step towards promoting equity in transportation with the launch of the Affordable Mobility Platform (AMP) electric vehicle carshare pilot project. The initiative, a collaboration between the City of Albuquerque Sustainability Office and partners Forth, PNM, and Sol Housing, aims to provide affordable and environmentally friendly transportation options to all communities.
Mayor Tim Keller emphasized the importance of ensuring equitable access to clean transportation, stating, “We’re keeping equity in the driver’s seat and providing our communities with access to sustainable transportation options.” The launch of the AMP program at PAH! Hiland Plaza apartment community marks a milestone for the southwest region in a national community Electric Vehicle (EV) carsharing program.
Albert Lee, Sustainable Transportation Specialist at the City of Albuquerque, highlighted the significance of the EV carshare program in advancing equitable climate action and improving air quality in frontline communities. He stated, “This EV carshare program is an important win for our community.”
The introduction of the AMP program at PAH! Hiland Plaza underscores the city's commitment to offering affordable short-term access to electric vehicles in historically underserved communities. Albuquerque City Councilor Tammy Fiebelkorn expressed her pride in the equity-based program, stating, “I'm so proud to see this kind of equity-based program starting here in our community.”
Felipe Rael, Executive Director of Sol Housing, shared the excitement among PAH! Hiland Plaza residents about the GoForth CarShare community benefit, emphasizing the accessibility and sustainability aspects of the program. PNM President and COO, Don Tarry, highlighted the importance of providing affordable transportation options and the opportunity for individuals to experience electric vehicles firsthand.
The AMP program not only aligns with the city's sustainability goals but also contributes to its efforts in promoting environmentally conscious practices. The project builds on various sustainability initiatives undertaken by the Keller administration, including the transition to electric buses, expansion of electric vehicle infrastructure, and commitment to renewable energy usage.
With the launch of the AMP electric vehicle carshare pilot project, the City of Albuquerque is driving towards a more inclusive and environmentally conscious future, ensuring that clean transportation options are accessible to all members of the community.
