University Libraries at the University of New Mexico (UNM) has completed a transformative renovation project in Zimmerman Library's classroom B30. The renovation aims to enhance the learning experience for students through innovative design and collaborative spaces.

The renovated B30, located in the basement of Zimmerman Library, has undergone a total space rearrangement with a focus on fostering collaboration among students. The traditional individual computers have been replaced with eight collaborative stations strategically placed to facilitate group work.

"We are thrilled to unveil our newly transformed classroom, creating a warm and inviting space for learning. These enhancements mark a significant step forward, providing us with greater flexibility to engage and inspire our students in innovative ways," said Amy Jackson, University Libraries associate dean.

Each collaborative station is equipped with a versatile monitor that can be raised or lowered, providing students with the flexibility to engage in shared projects or mirror the content displayed on the instructor's screen. This design ensures that all students have an unobstructed view of instructional material, fostering an inclusive and engaging learning environment.

Connectivity is a key feature of the renovation, with each station offering multiple options for students to seamlessly connect their laptops or tablets. This connectivity empowers students to share their screens within the group, promoting a collaborative and interactive learning experience.

To enhance visibility and engagement, extra projectors have been strategically placed around the perimeter of the room. This ensures that everyone, regardless of their location, has a clear view of instructional content.

"We are thrilled to unveil our newly transformed classroom, creating a warm and inviting space for learning. These enhancements mark a significant step forward, providing us with greater flexibility to engage and inspire our students in innovative ways," said Glenn Koelling, UL Learning Services coordinator.

The renovated B30 aligns with the latest best practices for designing learning spaces, emphasizing collaborative learning environments that encourage student participation and engagement. The University Libraries team is committed to creating spaces that reflect contemporary educational methods and provide students with the tools they need to succeed.

Instructors can schedule and coordinate library classroom instruction sessions in B30 with their assigned subject librarians. Requests can be made through the library's website.

This renovation represents a significant investment in the future of education at UNM and highlights the institution's dedication to providing cutting-edge resources for its students. The upgraded B30 classroom in Zimmerman Library will undoubtedly contribute to a more collaborative and engaging learning experience for students at UNM.
