UNM Hospital has recently introduced a new centralized check-in system for outpatient care, aiming to provide a more streamlined and convenient experience for patients. Instead of checking in at their respective clinics, patients will now use the centralized check-in (CCI) process.
"This is a big and exciting change for our campus," said Aaron Williams, Senior Executive Director of Ambulatory Operations at UNM Hospital. "The centralized check-in will further our mission of providing accessible, high-quality, safety-focused, and comprehensive care for the people of New Mexico."
Under the new system, patients can check in at either the main lobby of the Bill and Barbara Richardson Pavilion (BBRP) or inside the Orthopedic Clinic on the first floor near the entrance on Lomas. They will also be able to pay their co-pays at these designated locations before proceeding to their appointments.
The implementation of the centralized check-in system not only ensures consistency across all clinics but also enhances the overall patient experience. UNM Sandoval Regional Medical Center (SRMC), another campus of UNM Hospital, has already been using a similar CCI system for several months with great success.
While the transition to the new system may take some adjustment, Williams reassures patients and team members that UNM Hospital is committed to continuous improvement. "It will take some time for all of us to get accustomed to the CCI," Williams said. "But we are committed to improving and optimizing processes as we create best practices for our patients."
To inform patients about the change, appointment reminder calls have been updated since mid-January to include information about the centralized check-in process. Flyers have also been distributed by outpatient clinics, and temporary signage has been placed at the BBRP and Lomas entrances to direct patients to the new check-in kiosks.
UNM Hospital is optimistic that the centralized check-in system will ultimately enhance the patient experience when seeking outpatient care. While adjustments may be required, the hospital believes this new system will align with its mission of providing accessible, high-quality, safety-focused, and comprehensive care for the people of New Mexico.
Patients can find additional resources and information about the centralized check-in system on UNM Hospital's social media channels.
