The ABQ BioPark is currently seeking a qualified individual to fill the position of Assistant Gardener/Miniature Railroad Exhibit Operator. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting with the care and maintenance of plants and grounds, as well as operating and maintaining the miniature railroad exhibit. This position is part of the Horticulture department and reports to the Curator of Plants.
According to the job description, the Assistant Gardener/Miniature Railroad Exhibit Operator will be involved in various tasks related to the operation and maintenance of the miniature railroad exhibit. This includes the maintenance and repair of small mechanical trains and other equipment. The ideal candidate should have soldering and mechanical skills related to small engine maintenance and repair.
In addition to the duties related to the miniature railroad exhibit, the assistant gardener will also be responsible for participating in landscape maintenance activities. This includes tasks such as raking leaves, pruning trees and shrubs, weed abatement, and pond maintenance. The candidate will also be required to operate gardening and maintenance equipment and perform general grounds maintenance duties.
Applicants for this position must be 18 years or older and have experience in landscape maintenance or horticulture. Some mechanical experience is also preferred. The ability to perform basic gardening activities in variable outdoor conditions is a must, as the job requires repeated bending, kneeling, and lifting. Candidates should also be prepared for constant exposure to environmental conditions such as extreme heat, noise, dust, pollen, and insects.
It is important to note that this position is employed through Tryfacta staffing agency, not the City of Albuquerque. The employment term is limited to two years, and the position can be either full or part-time. Some weekend and evening availability is required.
The pay rate for this position is $12.00 per hour.
