The University of New Mexico (UNM) has announced that its art department will recognize exceptional achievements in drawing at the Rabbits Rabbits Rabbits Undergraduate Juried Art Show open house. The event will feature the presentation of the Reggie Behl Drawing Award, which is intended to support an undergraduate student who exhibits excellence in drawing.

On February 1, from 5 to 7 p.m., Gallery Hozho on the second floor of building 84 will host the Rabbits Rabbits Rabbits art show. According to a press release by UNM, this exhibition showcases numerous rabbit-themed artworks that explore their cross-cultural symbolism and lore. The pieces have been juried by Sallie Scheufler, a multidisciplinary artist and assistant director at the Richard Levy Gallery in Santa Fe. Among the participating student artists is Mikaila Dart, who has been honored with the Reggie Behl Award.

According to a press release by UNM, Scheufler said: "The students demonstrate a keen awareness of both current events and the historical factors that have shaped our present circumstances, like the impact of settler colonialism on the land and its implications for the future. There are themes of grief, hope, resiliency, and joy… I was impressed by the high quality of work submitted for this exhibition. There were so many ways to jury, but ultimately I chose to create a cohesive exhibition, in which all of the works spoke to each other in one way or another. It was also important to me to showcase the diverse methods of making happening in the department."

According to information provided on its webpage by UNM's Department of Art, it offers undergraduate programs including Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) and Bachelor of Arts (BA) degrees in studio art; BA and post-baccalaureate licensure in art education; as well as a BA in art history. Graduate degrees are also available, encompassing a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in studio, a Master of Arts (MA) in art education, and the potential for MA and PhD degrees in art history. The department emphasizes critical thinking in its classes and explores various practices and methods for teaching and understanding the arts and art history.
