Isleta Boulevard pavement preservation project begins in Bernalillo County

Bernalillo County has announced the commencement of the Isleta Boulevard pavement preservation project, a collaboration with Sen. Michael Padilla and Rep. Andres Romero. The project will focus on improvements to the corridor that extends from Durand Road SW to Bridge Boulevard SW.

Funded by $8.6 million from State Road Funds allocated by local lawmakers for the Isleta Corridor, the project is expected to be completed in April. The enhancements planned for this 5-mile stretch include milling the existing roadway, laying new pavement, adjusting manhole covers, and implementing fresh pavement markings. Alongside this preservation initiative, Bernalillo County is also involved in the design and reconstruction of Isleta Boulevard from Malpais Road to Durand Road. According to a press release by Bernalillo County, phase one will commence in fall and will focus on the segment from Malpais Road to Luchetti Road.

District 2 Commissioner Steven Michael Quezada stated, "Isleta Boulevard has played an integral part in the growth of the South Valley, but with growth comes the need for new infrastructure. I am grateful for the help from Sen. Padilla to secure these funds and look forward to seeing the benefits of this major and much-needed project," according to a press release by Bernalillo County.

Rep. Romero said, "Isleta Boulevard moves thousands of people through the heart of the South Valley. This massive investment will make this road safer, beautify the area, and help facilitate new economic development and job creation projects," according to a press release by Bernalillo County.
