New Mexico State University (NMSU) recently announced its plans for the spring convocation, an event aimed at marking the beginning of the new semester and recognizing the achievements of award recipients. The gathering, which took place at NMSU's Atkinson Recital Hall on the Las Cruces campus, attracted 100 attendees.
The Spring Convocation at NMSU celebrated faculty accomplishments, with Early Career Awards going to Dennis N. Lozada for his expertise in chile pepper breeding and Eric Magrane for his innovation in geo humanities. Distinguished Career Awards were presented to Rebecca Palacios for her community health research and Manoj Shukla for his significant contributions to soil health and water use efficiency. According to a press release by NMSU, the Team Award recognized Pei Xu, Yanyan Zhang, Huiyao Wang, and Robert B. Young's collaboration in the New Mexico Water Produced Research Consortium, contributing to statewide water reuse policy.
"I extend my congratulations to all the recipients of New Mexico State University’s research awards," said NMSU Provost Alan Shoho in a press release by NMSU. "Your work also serves as a testament to the power of research and its ability to be bold and shape the future. Everyone here in this audience makes a difference in their own way. According to another press release by NMSU, Jose Ortega-Carranza received the Research Recognition Award for his expertise in biochemical methods while Ross Marks earned the Community Engagement, Extension, and Outreach Award for his contributions to the local film community. Nancy Chanover, who has been a professor since 1998, received the Dennis W. Darnall Faculty Achievement Award for her substantial contributions to the astronomy curriculum and key roles in NASA's Planetary Data System Atmospheres Node and the Astrophysical Research Consortium.
