UNM’s Anderson School of Management named new dean

The University of New Mexico (UNM) has appointed Alina Chircu as the next dean of the Anderson School of Management, according to an announcement by UNM Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs James Holloway. Currently serving as a professor in the Computer Information Systems department at Bentley University, Chircu is set to assume her new role at UNM on April 8, 2024.

Chircu's previous experience includes her tenure as interim dean of Business in 2022, during which she successfully managed the business school. Her responsibilities encompassed oversight of nine academic departments and strategic decision-making as part of the President's Cabinet, according to a press release by UNM.

In the same press release, Holloway expressed his enthusiasm about Chircu's appointment, saying, "I am so excited to bring a professional of Alina Chircu’s expertise and talents to our state to lead our amazing Anderson School of Management. The faculty and staff in the school rock it, and Dr. Chircu is just the leader we need to take the school to the next level."

In response to her appointment, Chircu said, "I am honored to join the Anderson School of Management at UNM and the Lobo community. The Anderson School of Management is essential to the University’s commitment to support and grow a diverse student body, enhance academic excellence, expand connections with industry, government and community partners and support a vibrant economy." She further added that her career aligns with this vision and expressed appreciation for public education's transformative value.

The Anderson School of Management at UNM offers business management education across all levels. Accredited by AACSB International - The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), it provides undergraduate and graduate degrees along with certificates and executive leadership programs. Both in-person and online courses are available during various time slots according to information provided on its webpage.
