New Mexico State University (NMSU) has named Lisa Henderson as its new general counsel and chief legal affairs officer. Prior to this appointment, Henderson served as the associate general counsel at Oklahoma City Community College.

In her capacity as NMSU's primary attorney, Henderson will provide legal guidance and services. She officially assumed her role on Dec. 15, bringing with her a wealth of legal experience from her previous positions as general counsel for the Commissioners of the Land Office and deputy general counsel for the Office of Management and Enterprise Services in Oklahoma. According to an NMSU press release, Henderson holds a law degree with honors and a Master of Laws in healthcare from the University of Oklahoma College of Law. Additionally, she graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor's degree in sociology and a minor in biology from Southwestern Oklahoma State University.

NMSU President Jay Gogue expressed his enthusiasm about Henderson's appointment. "Lisa brings to NMSU a wealth of knowledge about the legal issues facing higher education and a track record as a highly effective public attorney," said Gogue, according to an NMSU press release. "We are excited to have her on board."

The University General Counsel (UGC) at NMSU plays an integral role in risk management by providing legal advice and representation to the university's board, executive leadership, and other stakeholders. As stated on the UGC About webpage provided by NMSU, their services include offering legal counsel to the Board of Regents and senior executives, representing the university in administrative and legal proceedings, providing guidance to the New Mexico Department of Agriculture, overseeing policies and procedures among other responsibilities.

Henderson also shared her excitement about joining NMSU. "NMSU is a friendly, vibrant, and diverse institution," she said according to an NMSU press release. "I am thrilled to help continue its rich educational legacy and positive impact on the lives of students, the community, and Aggies everywhere, near and far."
