Albuquerque Public Schools (APS) has announced that students from third to twelfth grade now have the opportunity for unlimited 24/7 tutoring through Paper. This chat and voice-based service is provided free of charge for all APS students, with parents needing to opt into the service.
The program provides students with access to a variety of virtual sessions, including personalized tutoring, writing assignment reviews, and college and career support. Live tutoring is offered 24/7 in English, Spanish, French, and Mandarin by tutors who are fluent speakers in these languages. This eliminates the need for translation services. In addition to this, students can submit written files to the Review Center for assistance with tasks such as essays, thesis statements, lab reports, and resumes. According to an APS press release, tutors work one-on-one with students using Paper's secure chat-based platform to help them understand concepts, improve their writing skills, and successfully navigate their coursework.
Superintendent Scott Elder expressed his enthusiasm about the initiative. "We’re thrilled to be able to offer this to our students," said Elder according to an APS press release. "We know many of our kids lost ground during the pandemic, and we are committed to doing everything we can to help them catch up. Other students are trying to get ahead. Making unlimited tutoring available to students will go a long way toward improving outcomes for all students."
Michele Dean, a special education math teacher at Del Norte High School also shared her positive experience with Paper. "I love Paper! It is incredibly user-friendly for teachers and students, offering a fantastic new resource for my students to get help whenever they need it," said Dean according to an APS press release.
According to information on its About webpage, Paper caters to over 3 million students across approximately 300 different school districts in 41 U.S. states and Canada. Its services range from around-the-clock high-quality tutoring to after-school enrichment and include valuable college and career resources.
