New Mexico State University (NMSU) has announced that Emily Gossett, a student majoring in agricultural and extension education, has been elected as the National FFA Organization's western region vice president. In her new role, Gossett will represent the FFA and promote agricultural education through various engagements including speeches, workshops, conferences, banquets, and meetings.
Gossett assumed her position during the 96th annual National FFA Convention and Expo held in Indianapolis, Indiana. With an impressive eight-year involvement in the FFA under her belt, she will now embark on a nationwide journey alongside her fellow officers. They will visit various FFA chapters and engage with officers and members. According to a press release by NMSU, National FFA officers are tasked with partnering with other officers and organizations to work on initiatives aimed at advocating for the importance of agriculture, agricultural education, and related policies.
"The process of being elected is rigorous to say the least," Gossett said in a press release by NMSU. "It takes a lot of trust in yourself that you can present yourself in a way that is true to you. I still don’t think I have fully processed that one of my largest dreams became a reality, but it was so surreal hearing my name called. The truly amazing culmination of a career in the FFA is what makes me so thankful for the year that I get to spend serving others and this organization."
"We are very proud of Emily. Her selection speaks volumes about the quality of students in the College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences at NMSU. She will be a wonderful representative for the university," said Dean Rolando Flores Galarza of College of ACES at NMSU.
According to information provided on its About webpage, FFA equips its members for superior leadership roles, personal development opportunities, and successful careers through agricultural education. As an intracurricular student organization, FFA is specifically designed for individuals with an interest in both agriculture and leadership.
