NM Department of Workforce Solutions observes the 9th annual National Apprenticeship Week

The New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions (NMDWS) is observing National Apprenticeship Week from Nov. 13 to 19, 2023. During this week, the NMDWS aims to showcase the benefits of Registered Apprenticeship as a robust and industry-driven training approach, addressing workforce and education challenges, as well as promoting diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility in the workplace, according to a press release by NMDSW.

As part of National Apprenticeship Week, NMDWS will convene the State Apprenticeship Council meeting on Thursday, Nov. 16, 2023, in Albuquerque. The event will feature a special ceremony recognizing 'Women in Apprenticeship' and is scheduled from 2 to 5 p.m. at 401 Broadway NE. Public attendance is welcome at this event. Additionally, workforce connection center staff across the state will be available to collaborate with job seekers and employers. They will offer guidance on apprenticeship training models and aid in the development of programs to enhance specific skills which contributes to local skill retention in New Mexico," said NMDSW.

"Our Department is taking it one step further with pre-apprenticeships that provide stipends and pathways for youth interested in technical and trades careers while paying for up to 400 hours of meaningful work experience,” said Secretary Sarita Nair according to a press release by NMDWS.

There are over 50 programs within the Registered Apprenticeship framework accessible throughout New Mexico," said NMDSW.

“Experience-based education through registered apprenticeships as well as certificate and degree programs at community colleges are an excellent path for many New Mexicans to build essential skills. Apprenticeships position New Mexicans to gain experience, earn family-sustaining wages, and serve their communities in a variety of high-need fields. With tuition-free career education through the Opportunity Scholarship, state apprenticeship programs, and free child care, New Mexico is working from all angles to build and maintain the skilled workforce we need,” said Acting Higher Education Secretary Patricia Trujillo, Ph.D., according to a press release by NMDWS.
