New Mexico State University (NMSU) recently made an exciting announcement regarding the upcoming film "Canaan," which will be based on the extraordinary life of Canaan Bower. Ross Marks, a professor at NMSU's Creative Media Institute, will be responsible for bringing Bower's story to the big screen. The film will focus not only on Bower's heroic act of saving a mother and her children from a potential kidnapper but also on his genuine character and humble approach to heroism.

Working alongside Marks is Mary Haarmeyer, who is collaborating on the script for "Canaan" as well as two other films, "The Santa Assist" and "Vengeful." These three films are scheduled to be shot consecutively in Las Cruces during the Fall of 2023. Marks, the director of the film, will produce it through his production company Rio Road Productions, in collaboration with Inspirado and Haarmeyer.

According to Marks, "Canaan's story is a powerful tale of heroism, faith, and family." He believes that it is important to share the stories of Las Cruces with the world, and Bower's story is one of the best examples of inspiration. Bower, who was a 16-year-old high school junior and talented wrestler, gained global recognition in 2020 for his courageous rescue. Unfortunately, just two years later, Bower lost his life in a tragic traffic accident. However, his heroic act earned him numerous accolades from organizations such as The Carnegie Hero Fund Commission, UFC President Dana White, Dona Ana County, and the City of Las Cruces.

The film "Canaan" aims to delve deeper into Bower's remarkable story, shedding light on his bravery as well as his character. It will provide viewers with a closer look at the inspiring tale of a true hero. With the combined efforts of Marks, Haarmeyer, and their production teams, audiences can expect an emotionally gripping and powerful film that pays tribute to the life of Canaan Bower.
