New Mexico State University (NMSU) Library is set to host an open house event on Tuesday, September 19, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at both the Zuhl and Branson libraries on the main campus. The highlight of the event will be the unveiling of the library's new Emerging Technologies Learning Lab, located in Branson Library. This state-of-the-art lab aims to provide students with a collaborative environment to engage with various technologies.
The library has also introduced several other resources to enhance the student experience. A new family workstation has been installed in Zuhl Library, which features study desk space connected to a playpen for student parents to tend to their small children. Additionally, a student meditation and prayer space has been created. The library staff will also share insights into upcoming remodeling projects scheduled for later this semester.
Kevin Comerford, the dean of the NMSU Library, expressed the mission of the Emerging Technologies Learning Lab, stating, "The mission of the Emerging Technologies Learning Lab is to help students understand the relationship between technology, information, and knowledge. It is an open lab space that any NMSU student can use to develop or enhance their digital fluency skills and apply them to their own field of study."
During the open house event, the Archives and Special Collections department will showcase historical documents and photographs related to the Amador family project. In addition, both the Branson and Zuhl libraries will have display tables presenting the library's extensive resources and services.
Exciting new additions are also on the horizon for the library. A new interactive resource directory for students will be available on touchscreen kiosks and the web. The library will also introduce new study furniture and innovative "study pods" in both the Zuhl and Branson libraries, providing students with a variety of new options for studying or collaborating. Furthermore, the library plans to expand its "Article Galaxy" electronic journal access service, allowing faculty to quickly download articles from journal publishers like Elsevier.
Overall, the NMSU Library's open house event promises to be an exciting opportunity for students to explore the new Emerging Technologies Learning Lab and take advantage of the library's additional resources and services.
