NMSU: The University Library will organize an open house event and unveil its new learning lab

New Mexico State University (NMSU) Library will be hosting an open house event on September 19, 2023, to unveil its new Emerging Technologies Learning Lab. The event will take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at both Zuhl and Branson libraries on the main campus. The lab, located in Branson Library, aims to provide students with a collaborative space to engage with various technologies.

According to Kevin Comerford, the dean of the NMSU Library, the Emerging Technologies Learning Lab's mission is to help students understand the relationship between technology, information, and knowledge. It will serve as an open lab space for all NMSU students to develop and enhance their digital fluency skills in their respective fields of study.

In addition to the new learning lab, the library has introduced other resources for students. One notable addition is a family workstation in Zuhl Library, which features study desk space connected to a playpen for student parents to tend to their small children. The library has also created a student meditation and prayer space. During the open house event, the Archives and Special Collections department will showcase historical documents and photographs related to the Amador family project.

Furthermore, the library will be expanding its resources and services. A new interactive resource directory for students will be available on touchscreen kiosks and the web. New study furniture and innovative study pods will also be added to both Zuhl and Branson libraries, providing students with more options for studying and collaborating. Additionally, the library plans to expand its electronic journal access service, allowing faculty to quickly download articles from journal publishers like Elsevier.

The open house event will not only give students an opportunity to explore the new learning lab but also to learn about the library's extensive resources and services. It is an exciting development for NMSU Library and reflects its commitment to providing students with innovative and collaborative spaces for learning.
