Obituary

Mildred (Millie) Kemp (nee Miser), 96, formerly of Albuquerque, NM, and Shaler Twp. PA, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 3, 2023, at Seneca Place, Verona PA. Millie was born into a large, loving family in Anaheim, CA, on the eve of the great depression. A spirit of generosity, optimism, humility, and love for her family marked her long life. She married Kenneth L. Kemp, the brother of her friend and college roommate, Betty, on July 23, 1948. She and Ken celebrated their 50th anniversary a few years before his passing in 2001. They had two sons, Kenneth L. (Larry) Kemp and Rev. William (Bill) Kemp, both of Verona, PA.

After the kids left home, Millie and Ken entered an adventurous phase of life; sailing the sloops Tuolumme and Helga, then starting a word processing business that served the University of New Mexico community where she went back to school to earn her BS. While in Albuquerque she did adult literacy tutoring, helped with the mailings for several political candidates, became the unofficial neighborhood welcome wagon, played bridge and board games, held office in the Delta Gamma of ESA service sorority, and worked at the AAA. She always found time, though, to attend Miser family gatherings, Kemp-Thomas clan thanksgivings, and travel the globe with various family members. Her good humor, gentle spirit, loyalty, and love of family made her always a joy to be with.

She is survived by her brother, Frank Miser (Anaheim California); her sons, Larry and Bill and his wife, Karen; grandchildren, Matthew Kemp, Audrey Tate-Kemp, Paul Kemp (Rysa), and Carolyn Kemp (Nick Stewart); and great-grandchildren, Alexandra, Cyrus, and Julian. She was much loved by her many nephews, nieces, extended family, and friends.

Larry and Bill often remarked that their mother never had a bad thing to say about anyone. She embodied the apostle Paul's definition of Love: "Love is patient and kind... never jealous, boastful, irritable, or resentful. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things."

A Celebration of Millie's Life will be held on Friday, April 14, 2023, 2:00 p.m. in the second floor chapel of Seneca Hills Village, 5350 Saltsburg Rd., Verona, PA, with the Reverend Joseph Hajdu officiating. A Graveside Service will be held Wednesday, April 12, 2023, 10:00 a.m., at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE, Albuquerque, NM. Memorial contributions may be made to the Parkinson Foundation of Western PA, https://pfwpa.org/donate/.
