State Republican leaders accused Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham of leaving out the “realities” communities are facing during her fifth State of the State address in Santa Fe last week.

House minority leader Ryan Lane said in a statement the Democratic governor, who won a second term in office, ignored many of the problems the state faces.

“What was missing from the Governor’s speech was any mention of the real issues New Mexicans are facing,” Lane said in his statement. “She failed to mention just how far behind our students are, the record-breaking homicides in Albuquerque, doctors fleeing our state, how her priority eco-legislation will harm our farmers and ranchers, and sadly no mention of the oil and gas revenues or workers that are funding this progressive spending spree. Most New Mexicans do not live in the utopia that Lujan Grisham described, and Republicans are committed to working to provide meaningful relief and support to New Mexicans. House Republicans are committed to working across the aisle to make sure that the realities that our communities are facing are not forgotten.”

The Governor said during her State of the State speech that she wants part of the record revenue at the state’s disposal to go toward building a better economy and educational system. The governor is proposing a $9.4 billion executive budget, which represents a 12% hike from last year. Her recommendations included investing more money into housing, homelessness, health care, education, public safety and economic development.
