Over 40 projects intended to improve the quality of life for local and tribal residents throughout New Mexico will share an estimated $45 million in funding.

"Investing in quality recreational facilities is important to supporting the health, happiness, and well-being of New Mexicans in communities across the state," Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham (D-NM) said in a press release from her office. "We are glad to deliver $45 million in funds for projects that will improve quality of life and recreational opportunities from Angel Fire to Anthony."

The projects to be funded range from improvements to the Wagon Mound Rodeo Ground to picnic shelters at the Los Lunas Sports Complex, according to KRQE. Funding will come from the Regional Recreation Centers/Qualify of Life Grant. In order to qualify, projects had to have a completion date of June 30, 2025, or sooner. Funds for the grants were set aside during the 2022 lawmaking session. The New Mexico Department of Finance Administration targeted the funding to support recreational facilities, and the projects must benefit local communities.

The Curry County Event Center will receive the biggest share of funding at $6.5 million, KRQE reported. The smallest share – $63,000 – will go toward purchasing gym equipment for the Cuba Fairgrounds Recreation Center.

Many other communities will receive funds, according to KRQE. Ruidoso will receive over $72,000 for the Grindstone Disk Golf Course. Carlsbad will receive $3.3 million for the Cavern Theater Rehabilitation Project. A full list of grant recipients and projects can be viewed online.
