Edwardo Atencio
March 6, 1959 — October 11, 2022
Atencio, Edwardo II
Atencio, Edwardo II, Age 63, heard the call of the Lord to come home on Tuesday, October 11th, 2022. He was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico on March 6th, 1959… even though we celebrated for the first few decades on March 8th. He didn’t mind. Instead, we celebrated from March 6th through March 8th every year after he found out- because why not? He loved a good time with family and friends. A true man of God, family man and a fierce friend. Edward loved Albuquerque, really, he loved New Mexico. He cherished the beauty found all over the state- Pecos, Jemez, the Sandia Mountains… every lake, river, sunrise, sunset, monsoon rain and thunder storm were small pieces of his own paradise that he carried with him where ever he went. Edward’s love for his Lord and savior Jesus Christ held the #1 spot in his heart. Love, is a common theme you will read about in this short story about our wonderful dad. Edward held steadfast to an unfailing faith until his final breath. His only wish in this life was to come home to his children, grandchildren, family, friends and fresh roasted green chili (with fried potatoes and a homemade tortilla) and even though God had other plans, different than what any of us had hoped and prayed for, we know he is in heaven watching over us. We know, without any doubt, that the Lord welcomed our dad with a smile, open arms and a love mirrored in the humble, generous, kind and unmatched loving heart that our amazing dad carried with him all of his life. We could not have asked for a better dad. Regardless of any distance, he was there. An ever-present shoulder for us to lean and cry on. An ear always ready to listen. Wisdom from life and the word of God written in his heart. Ready to offer advice, with no judgement. Most of all, a heart ready to pour out all of the love anyone could carry and more. To say we will miss our dad is an understatement. We feel lost without him. Our conversations. His jokes. His humor. His Laugh. His heart. Matthew 5:14 “You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden.” He was our light. We looked to him for guidance through every storm, obstacle and wrong turn. With his departure, he takes a piece of each of us with him. Truly, we don’t know how we are going to navigate this life without him. We will honor him, his life, his love. His grandbabies and great grandbabies yet to come, will know of the man that touched the lives of so many people. God took him home, but the seeds our dad has sown, will leave a harvest for so many more years to come. The rainbow trout will sleep a little safer and the menudo will, too… Until we see you again in heaven someday, Dad- We love you more than words can say and miss you more than our hearts can bear. We Love you.
