Allen, Henry Darney

Henry D. Allen ("Al") SFC US Army retired, passed away September 10, 2022. He was born in Biloxi, MS October 30, 1927. He graduated high school from Biloxi High School and began his army career in 1945. He served with the US Army until his retirement June 30, 1968. For his service in Hawaii, Al was awarded the Army Commendation Medal. Upon his retirement from the Army, he was awarded the Joint Service Commendation Medal. He then began his second career with USPS, where he worked until retirement June 1983.

Al enjoyed his army life very much, but his best tour of duty was his time in Japan from May 1950 to November 1953. During that time, he met the love of his life, Kazuko whom he married January 8, 1953 at the American Embassy in Tokyo, Japan. He and Kaz shared more than 65 years together. Al and Kaz spent many years touring and cruising with Sun Tours. They visited all 50 states and more than 50 countries. Of all the trips, their favorites were those to visit Kaz's family in Japan every five years.

For the last four years, Al lived with his son Rick, who loved and cared for him. During that time, they took a couple of trips, ate lots of good food, had a few laughs, and spent invaluable time together. Al is survived by his two sons, Bruce and Rick; his daughter, Sue and her husband, Mike; his sister-in-law Judy; his sister Marlene and her husband Ken; three granddaughters; one grandson; two great-grandsons, and two great-granddaughters. Al will be missed dearly by all those who knew him and loved him very much.
