Obituary

Gardis Lavern Townsend was born to William French Monroe Witt and Nina Flo Witt, in Knoxville, Tennessee on December 31, 1930. Jesus called her home on July 15, 2022. She was the youngest of 4 sisters.

She was known by Lavern, Mom, Nanny, and Sweetheart. She was married to the love of her life, James E. Townsend, for over 70 years. He preceded her in death on May 10, 2022.

She was blessed with 3 children, daughter, Charmaine Townsend Tycer; son, William H. Townsend; and daughter, Patsy A. Beaudry. She had 10 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

Lavern was loving, gentle, and hysterically funny. Her dry sense of humor always kept you laughing. She was creative, a great cook and she loved to play golf with Jim. She was loved by all who knew her. She will be greatly missed but knowing she is with Jesus and has been reunited with her husband, bring such peace to all of us left behind. We have all our precious memories of you and your life with us. Thank you so much for pouring all of your love into us. 

A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, August 9, 2022, at 3:00 p.m., at FRENCH – Westside.
