Obituary

Our Mother, Virginia I. Nelson, passed away in her home on Sunday, July 10, 2022, at the age of 95.

She was born in Brooklyn, NY on April 23, 1927, to Harry and Eleanor Eckert. She married Gilbert B. Nelson on October 8, 1952, and his jobs took her to Elizabeth, NJ; Oak Ridge, TN; Los Alamos, NM; Walnut Creek, CA; Rockville, MD; Denver, CO, and finally to retirement in Albuquerque, NM where all of her children live.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother, Henry Eckert, and son, Thomas W. Nelson. She is survived by her children, Gilbert Nelson and wife, Carol, Barbara Lyon, Eleanor Lucero and husband, Marcel, and Matthew Nelson and wife, Tammie. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Matthew Nelson, Marcel Lucero and spouse, Melanie; James Nelson, Stewart Lucero, Rachel Nelson, and Dustin Nelson; great-grandchildren, Mariella Lucero, Maximilian Lucero, Magdalena Lucero, and Aldo Stearnes.

She was a kind and loving mother, care giver and friend and will be deeply missed by all.

The family requests those who wish to express sympathy to consider donating to their favorite charity or to reach out to a friend in need. She will be interred with her husband at the Santa Fe National Cemetery.

A Rosary will be held Friday, August 5, 2022, at 10:00 a.m., Church of the Incarnation Catholic Church, 2309 Monterey Road NE, in Rio Rancho, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at 1:00 p.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery in Satan Fe, New Mexico.
