Elvira Luevano Salinas

April 20, 1931 ~ July 9, 2022 (age 91)

Obituary

Elvira (known to many as Vera) was born on April 20, 1931 in Buffalo Valley, NM.

It is difficult to condense 91 years into a few sentences. Her parents were migrant workers. She shared stories of moving across four states following crops, of the awesome biscuits her dad would bake, and the love for her mother through the years.

She lived through the depression. Her brothers served in the military during World War II. She was proud to be an American and was not afraid to stand up for the rights of others. She grew up through the difficult times of segregation and racism. She could out-debate anyone about politics.

She regretted not having graduated with her class; but she changed that when she earned her high school diploma and went on to become a Licensed Practical Nurse.

She was preceded in death by her youngest daughter, Stella Salinas.

She is survived by her three daughters; Alicia Montoya, Sarah Montoya, and Beatrice Montoya; two sisters, Frances Garrison, and Alice Bass; as well as several grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren.

She stood firm on her faith in Jesus as her Lord and Savior. She enjoyed music, crocheting, and loved road trips. She had a great sense of humor and loved telling corny jokes.
