Obituary
Eufracio Sabay or Fras to family and friends, passed away peacefully in his sleep early morning on Friday, May 20th, 2022.
Fras is survived by his wife of 25 years, Ging Silva, an Outpatient Nurse Supervisor at the University of New Mexico Hospitals. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Caridad, who passed away in 1994. He is also survived by his sons, Evelio Sabay and his wife, Florence, Alfeo Sabay and his wife, Astrid; his two daughters, Blesila Hartom and husband, Kirk, and Eumelia S. Johnson and her husband, Michael; grandchildren, Jonathan Sabay, Tyler Hartom, Kila H. Duncan, Gabie Herrick, Monica Sabay and Lisa Sabay; along with nieces, nephews, and extended family all over the world.
Fras was born on May 15, 1930, graduated from Mapua Institute of Technology with a Civil Engineering degree, became the youngest district engineer in northern Leyte, Philippines. He immigrated to the United States in 1972 and worked as a Civil Engineer in Ebensburg, PA and Pittsburgh, PA, respectively. He moved his family to Gallup, New Mexico in early 1980s then to Albuquerque. He worked with the Department of Interior, Bureau of Indian Affairs as Structural Engineer. Fras was active in the American Filipino community serving as President in early 1990s. He and wife Ging were active members of St. Jude Thaddeus parish being Ministers of Communion.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 1, 2022 at FRENCH – Westside 3:00-5:00 p.m., with the Rosary to follow at 5:00 p.m. Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, June 2, 2022, 10:15 a.m., at St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church, 5712 Paradise Blvd NW. Burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
