Across New Mexico on Memorial Day, residents took the time to honor veterans and remember their sacrifices.
Memorial Day events, which are intended to remember veterans who served the country, were held on Sunday and Monday throughout the state, according to KOB 4.
Many veterans take this time to remember serving in past wars and the sacrifices that those in the military made. Local Memorial Day events included cleaning cemeteries and placing flags and wreaths on the graves of soldiers who died during a war.
Vietnam War veteran Terry Brown, commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5432 in Corrales, took part in the ceremonies.
"It means an incredible amount to have had friends and relatives die in Vietnam, served in Vietnam," Brwon told KOB 4. "And I think it’s important for all of us to remember the fallen who have fallen in war. We’ve had over 200,000 men and women who have died in wars since World War I. And we are honoring them as well."
A Rio Rancho Scouts troop honored fallen soldiers at the San Ysidro Cemetery in Corrales by placing flags on the graves of soldiers who died in past wars, KOB 4 reported.
"We're cleaning up their gravestones, and we're putting the American flag on them just to respect them," Hannah Opel told KOB 4.
