The deadline has been extended for a free eviction prevention legal clinic in Albuquerque, a KOB4 report said this week. Increasing inflation and home prices have led to a significant rise in rent prices, and many renters can no longer afford homes or apartments that they could afford in the past.

With many facing eviction, Albuquerque has set up an eviction prevention clinic with a newly lengthened deadline to give people a free resource to consult with a lawyer regarding their housing issues, the report said. The situation was aggravated by the lifting of the eviction moratorium, which led to an increased need for the clinic.

"It's a very hard situation to go through, especially during COVID and all of these events that have been going on, and we just want to support our Albuquerque community by providing these tools to support them and help them, so please come out," Vajayra Gonzalez, an outreach support specialist for the City of Albuquerque, told the New Mexico Sun this week.

Albuquerque residents can see if they qualify by filling out basic information in an online form. Legal documents can then be provided to a lawyer, who will determine a best course of action for the resident.

The new deadline to sign up has been pushed back to Friday, May 20; the report said. The clinic will be held on Wednesday, May 25.
