A man who was arrested for masquerading as an Albuquerque police officer has been ordered to stay in jail for a little longer.
Raul Martinez was arrested last month for impersonating a police officer after he announced that he was an Albuquerque police officer at two different locations, including a gas station; a recent KOB 4 news report said. Witnesses said he was drunk and slurring his words.
While the judge did allow him to be released for the police impersonation, he was nevertheless held in jail for violating the conditions of a DWI in March.
"Mr. Martinez you are going to be released on your own recognizance this morning on this case, you're not getting out of jail today, it sounds like you're held on other matters for violations of conditions of release," Judge Joshua Sanchez said in court, quoted by KOB 4.
Police connected the two incidents because Martinez's car had flashing lights when he was arrested for the DWI, and other camera footage showed the same car using the flashing lights to get through traffic quicker while Martinez was driving for delivery services.
Martinez was later positively identified in a photo lineup by witnesses from the gas station incident.
