Local authors/tech entrepreneurs in Santa Fe have banded together to pen a book that teaches children how to stay safe online.

Michael Davis and Patrick Duffy operate a cyber security risk management firm in the state capital called Merek Security Solutions.

Albuquerque CBS affiliate KRQE reported that Davis drew inspiration for the literature from Duffy’s five-year-old son.

“You think common sense would rule the day, but unfortunately the way technology moves and how we’re so entrenched in it all the time sometimes go[es] over people’s heads fairly quickly,” Duffy said to the station.

The book takes a look at what Merek does with grownups daily from an “explain to me like I’m five” lens. It's a choose your own adventure-style story.

According to KRQE, the book allows children to make decisions for Billy, the protagonist, and see the consequences of each decision.

“Our whole job is really looking at risk and looking at the pros and cons from the C-suite all the way down to the janitor, so we figured, why not create the same type of options for our youngest readers?” Davis said to KRQE.

He hopes the book will prompt parents to discuss technology with their children, the station reported.
