Amellia “Pola” Rascon, 80, passed away on Thursday, December 23, 2021.
She is reunited with her parents Chon and Maria Pena; brothers: Encarnacion, Raymond, Peter; sisters: Lupe and Margret.
Amellia is survived by her daughter Liza Rascon Barreras; grandchildren: Juan Luis Barreras, Victoria Maria Barreras; sisters: Dolores Pena, Sally Gallosa; brother Emilio Pena, also many other beloved family members.
Amellia was born on September 14, 1941, in Deming, New Mexico. After graduating from Deming High School in 1961, she traveled and lived in California, Oklahoma, and overseas in Germany. She was married to Oscar Maynes Rascon for 16 years and was able to travel, being a military wife and homemaker. Amelia finally resided in Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1981 and worked as a telephone operator for 20 years, retiring in 2001. After retirement, Amelia volunteered as a “grandma” for a preschool program at Painted Sky Elementary School for 9 years. She loved her grandchildren and was loved by many of her family and friends. Her hobbies included decorating, scrapbooking, baking, and sewing.
Amellia's Life Celebration will begin with a Visitation on Friday, January 7, 2021 at 7:15 a.m. at Salazar Mortuary located at 400 Third St SW, 87102. Rosary will be recited at 8:15 a.m. at St. Joseph's on the Rio Grande Catholic Church located at 5901 St. Joseph's Dr NW, 87120. Mass will begin at 9:00 a.m. Salazar Mortuary is entrusted with arrangements.
