Obituary
On Monday, November 22, 2021, Dimas Saiz passed away in Albuquerque, NM after a full life that lasted 86 years.
Dimas was born on Friday, November 22, 1935, to Carmelita Griego and Avelino Saiz. At the time of his passing, he was one of only two living survivors of their eleven children, Antonia, Felicitas, Elario, Ricardo, Viviana, Ovedio, Ferminia, Moises, Octaviano, and Benceslado. He was born and raised in Tijeras, NM and lived there until his final day. Dimas attended Highland High School, and in 1958 was drafted into the United States Army at age 23, where he served for two years. Following an honorable discharge in 1960, Dimas served proudly for four years in the U.S. Army Reserve. He married his loving wife, Annette Armijo in 1959 and built a home in Tijeras on land given to him by his father where they raised a family of six children. Over the course of his life, Dimas was an electronics technician, a baker, a carpenter, and a bakery store manager. He retired as a baker from La Posada at the University of New Mexico. When Dimas wasn't baking and decorating cakes he enjoyed drawing, playing his guitar, gardening, hunting, and fishing, but mostly he cherished time with his family. Dimas is survived by his loving wife, Annette; his children, Anthony, Kevin and wife, Donna, Michael, Bernadette, Yvette and husband, Greg Carabajal, and Denette and husband, Eric Varley; grandchildren, Eliska, Jonathan, Elliette, Ethan, Ciena, Mackenzie, Lexie, and Ryan; as well as his brother; and many nieces and nephews.
He served the Lord as a devout Catholic and attended San Antonio Catholic Mission Church in Tijeras, NM. No matter how difficult life became, our father Dimas never swayed from his faith.
Dimas was a beloved man who shared a smile with everyone he met. His last words brought smiles to the faces of those fortunate to be by his side. Although he will be missed by his family and friends, we will continue to smile with the wonderful memories until we meet again with our Lord in Heaven.
