Obituary of Jose Salazar
Jose Filiberto Luciano Salazar 89, of Española passed away on the morning of September 25th, 2021. Jose was born on December 17, 1931, in El Guache, New Mexico. Known to his family and close friends as “Phil” and “Mickey”. As a father, brother, uncle, grandfather, great grandfather and friend he lived a great life. He served honorably in the U.S. Air Force from 1951 through 1955. He worked as a Field Engineer with the Contel phone company in Espanola, and eventually retired from Contel.
He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Lazaro and Gregorita Salazar; brothers and sisters, Octavianita Gallegos, Rosarita Manzanares, Lorenzita Salazar, José Salazar, Epifanio Salazar, Juanita Babcock, Luisa Martinez, Arsenio Salazar and wife Lillian G. Salazar.
He is survived by his two sisters, Antonia Valencia of Española, Aurora Archuleta of Albuquerque and sister-in-law Frances Salazar of El Guache. Children: Hazel (Ernie) Rodriguez of Albuquerque, Sandra Salazar (James Gomez) of Tijeras, Valerie Salazar of Española and Ron Salazar of Albuquerque. Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren, Vanessa, (Nico), Andre and Aria Borrego, Jennifer, (Stephen) and Lucas Garcia, Kevin Smyth, Cassaundra Smyth and Vicente Salazar.
A Mass will be held at Holy Cross Church, 116 S McCurdy Rd, Española, New Mexico on Friday, November 19th, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. Burial to be held at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at 1:30 p.m., 501 Guadalupe St. Santa Fe, NM 87501 following the Mass.
Pallbearers: Kevin Smyth (grandson), Eric Trujillo (godson), Dan Romero (family friend) and Ron Salazar (favorite son).
