The U.S. Department of Agriculture has named Patricia Dominguez as New Mexico’s Rural Development State Director, a position aimed at benefiting those residing in, or coming into contact with, rural America.
Dominguez herself, one of several regional appointments, grew up in the rural community of Peñasco, located in northern New Mexico, according to a release.
“These twelve individuals are incredible public servants who have a proven track record when it comes to their commitment to advance their states and communities," Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack said in the release. "Each will serve on the frontlines, carrying out USDA’s mission at the state level and ensuring the voice of each and every USDA customer is heard. We are fortunate to have each of these talented individuals at this critical time for farmers and producers and rural communities across America.”
Dominguez has been on the congressional staff for Sen. Martin Heinrich since 2013. From 2008-2012, she was on the staff of senator Jeff Bingaman. Both senators are from New Mexico.
Dominguez’s experience of growing up in a rural community means that she is intimately aware of the challenges and needs of those communities. She has experience in implementation of strategies to help rural communities to be successful with ventures that suit the areas.
In her new role, Dominguez will be in control of funding programs for her department, including business, community facilities, housing and water and wastewater programs.
