Early on the morning of Oct. 4, a "dangerous" inmate escaped the Chaves County Detention Center, and was recaptured after a standoff of six and a half hours, the Chaves County Sheriff's office said.
Daniel Cobos, 37, was awaiting trial for drug and attempted robbery charges when he crawled through a small hole in the ceiling, ending up in the medical unit, KRQE reported.
The inmate, who weighs only 122 pounds, took a container of needles and made a weapon out of a mop bucket before crawling back into the ceiling and finding his way outside, the station reported.

"Tonight (Monday Oct. 4th) the dangerous escapee was located by deputies at 2205 Portales road north of Roswell," the Chaves County Sheriff's Office said on Facebook. "Deputies surrounded the house and occupants exited the front door as Cobos attempted to sneak out the back door. Deputies gave Daniel Cobos and a female commands to show their hands at which time Daniel Cobos ran back inside the house."
With help from the Roswell Police Department and the New Mexico State Police, officers secured the perimeter of the house.
"After the SWAT Team deployed multiple CS gas canisters, entry was made and they located Cobos hiding in a room under a blanket," the sheriff's department said. " A gun was located near Cobos, who refused to obey commands and was tased before he was taken into custody. After great teamwork by law enforcement, the dangerous escapee is back in custody."
