In a unanimous vote cast Tuesday, the Rio Rancho school board is offering $2,500 for any information regarding students causing property damage through a viral TikTok challenge.

The challenge, known as "devious licks", is completed by students by stealing or damaging property from their schools without being caught in order to increase their likes and views on TikTok. And within the Rio Rancho school system, the amount and severity of the licks have gotten out of hand.

"This TikTok challenge deviant lick, it has certainly plagued our district," said Sal Maniaci, the safety and security director for Rio Rancho Public Schools, according to KOAT.

In Mountain View Middle school, students have been caught in the act by staff members putting toilet dispensers in the toilet bowls. Maniaci also said that students at V. Sue Cleveland High School have torn the divider walls off the bathroom stalls, according to KOAT.

"A reward will not be offered every time and the amount will fall in line with the amount of damages," said Melissa Perez, RRPS public information officer.

In addition to reward money being offered for tips and information, some students that have participated in the challenge have already been caught and suspended, and their parents will be asked to pay for the school's property damages.
