Officials with Albuquerque International Sunport believe that the number of people flying in and out of the airport are showing signs of improvement from where they were during the height of COVID-19 pandemic, even if they didn't see a surge in travelers over the Labor Day weekend.
Through the holiday weekend, the Albuquerque International Sunport saw approximately 47,000 passengers, according to KRQE.
"These numbers are kind of in line with what we've been seeing for several weeks now, so we didn't really see a big increase in passengers leading up to Labor Day weekend," Jonathan Small, Sunport's marketing director, told KRQE.
That said, the number of passengers for this year's Labor Day weekend was about two and a half times more than what Sunport saw during the same weekend in 2020. According to KRQE, during the same holiday weekend in 2019, which was the year before the pandemic, the Albuquerque International Sunport saw roughly 60,000 passengers go through its gates.
