Four seats on the Albuquerque Public Schools' Board of Education are up for grabs during the upcoming November election, with none of the current holders planning to run to keep their spot.

Board President Dr. David Peercy is one of the members who has decided not to seek re-election. He's been on the Board of Education since 2009, according to KRQE.

"Thirteen years is a long time," Peercy told KRQE. "I think we've done a lot of good things. We've been through some rough times and we've gotten through those."

Percy went on to say that there are a lot of new candidates that could help bring a new, fresh perspective to the school board.

District 3's Lorenzo Garcia, District 6's Elizabeth Armijo, and District 5's Candelaria Patterson are also leaving the board. Peercy said the four of them plan to help the new members transition into their new positions and work through their orientation period.

As of Sept. 2, 13 people have have submitted their candidacy paperwork through the Secretary of State's office to run for the open positions, KRQE reported.
