Obituary

Donald F. Wagstaff, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, August 13, 2021, at his home.

He was born in Sacramento, California to Leon and Mary Lou Wagstaff. Don served in the U.S. Air Force for 20 years, attaining the rank of Major and retired in Albuquerque, NM in 1993.

He graduated from Texas Christian University (TCU) in 1971, where he met and wed his beloved wife, Berta. Upon graduation from TCU, Don also received a commission as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Air Force. He also earned a Master of Arts degree from Webster College in 1977.

After retiring from the Air Force, he opened Civilian & Armed Forces Real Estate Services, LLC (CARES) to assist Veterans in utilizing and maximizing their VA Housing Benefits until his passing. He was the qualifying broker and earned designations as a Certified Residential Specialist (CRS), and Graduate Realtor Institute of New Mexico (GRI). In addition, he opened Foreclosure Alternatives LLC to expand his services to Veterans during the financial crisis in 2008. In connection with Foreclosure Alternatives, he earned certifications as a CDPE (Certified Distressed Property Expert) and as a CIAS (Certified Investor Agent Specialist) to further assist Veterans and the public.

He was an avid golfer and an active member of the Gaggle Golf Group at Desert Greens Golf Course.

Don was a longtime volunteer at the Albuquerque Little Theater, Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta, Eucharistic minister for St. Joseph on the Rio Grande Catholic Church; a member of Friendship Force of New Mexico and Friendship Force International, a member of the National Association of Realtors and Realtor Association of New Mexico as well as Albuquerque Metropolitan Board of Realtors; Albuquerque Congress of Real Estate (ACRE) and a Life Member of MOAA (Military Officers Association of America) and The Reserve Officers Association.

Don was preceded in death by his father. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Berta Wagstaff, and his mother who resides in Sun City, California.

A Rosary will be held on Wednesday, September 1, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. followed by a Mass at 10:30 a.m., St. Thomas Aquinas Parish, 1502 Sara Rd. SE Rio Rancho, NM. A visitation and celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, September 1, 2021, at 12:00 p.m. followed by Military Honors at 2:00 p.m., FRENCH - Westside.
