A local high school was placed on lockdown Wednesday morning after there was police activity on the campus.
Albuquerque Public Schools tweeted on the morning of Aug. 18 that Rio Grande High School was going to "shelter in place" because of reports of two people in the parking lot who were armed, according to KQRE.
"#Lockdown #ShelterInPlace Rio Grande High School is currently under lockdown with deputies on scene assisting @APS_PD. All media inquires will need to go through @APS_PD and @ABQschools. No further details at this time," the Bernalillo County Sheriff's Office posted on Twitter.
A letter that was sent to Rio Grande High School parents, according to KQRE, said that the two people who triggered the incident were in fact law enforcement officers that were using the parking lot at the high school in order to transfer equipment to a different car.
Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office deputies were also on scene, KQRE reported.
The Albuquerque Public Schools posted on Twitter that the lockdown lasted for about an hour.
"School safety is a community responsibility, and we encourage students, staff, and neighbors to alert us when they learn of potential threats to our school. We take every possible threat seriously and work closely with APS Police and other law enforcement to keep our campus safe," the letter said, according to KQRE.
