Tribute

David Mark Davis, beloved husband, father, and friend died in Santa Fe, NM, August 2, 2021. David was born October 27, 1934, in Easton, PA, to parents Mark Llewelyn Davis and Doris Gutherson Davis.

When David was 10 years old, his family moved to Bethlehem, PA, when his father accepted the position of organist and choir master of Central Moravian Church. David entered Moravian Preparatory School from which he graduated first in his class in 1952. He received a full scholarship to Moravian College and in 1956 received his BS degree in chemistry. He entered Lehigh University as a graduate teaching assistant and received his MS degree in chemistry in 1959. He had been a member of the American Chemical Society and Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity.

In his youth David was a Boy Scout and sang in his church choir. Some of his fondest memories were of summers spent at the family's cottage near Richlandtown, PA. It was there that he learned boating and fishing and an appreciation for the outdoors, activities that many years later he would introduce to his children.

In September of 1959 just before David was to receive his degree from Lehigh University and leave for Albuquerque, NM, where he was to begin his professional career with Sandia Corporation he met Chris, the woman who would become his wife. They were married in Santa Fe, NM, December 18, 1959, at the Church of the Holy Faith and resided in Albuquerque, NM. In 1973 a career move took David and his family to New Jersey where they resided in

Montclair and David began work at Biomedical Sciences in

Fairfield. In 1977, the family returned to the west when David accepted a position with Hughes Aircraft Company,

El Segundo, CA. In 1993, after retiring from Hughes, David and Chris returned to their beloved New Mexico, settling in the community of Eldorado. It was there that David made many new friends and became reacquainted with old friends in Albuquerque.

David was a gentleman, a man of integrity, independent of

thought, and once described as "honest as the day is long." He liked all things scientific, classical music, his cup of coffee in the morning, and the newspaper comics without which his day did not begin.

David was preceded in death by his parents and his sister

Nancy. He is survived by his wife Chris, his children

Roger C. Davis, Sharon R. Davis, DC, and Glenn A. Davis.

David was a descendant of Robert Abell who arrived in

America in 1630 from England as a member of Gov. John

Winthrop's fleet in what became known as the Great Migration. He was also a cousin of the suffragette Inez Milholland.

The family thanks all associated with Fresenius Kidney Care who compassionately cared for David. A special thank you to David's favorite nurse Kim. Their enjoyment of needling one another brought a measure of levity to David's care.

David's remains will be interred at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. A celebration of David's life will be held in the fall on a date to be announced.
