Albuquerque’s new Amazon warehouse is looking to hire nearly 1,000 employees that will start off making $15.50 per hour.

The facility, located near Unser and Route 66, began construction at the beginning of the year, KRQE reported.

“Just the current economic impact has been huge,” Bernalillo County Economic Development Director Mayling Armuo told KRQE back in January when the building was already proving to be an economic boon for the area. “The building is over 50-percent done so just the construction jobs alone, the materials and supplies that had to be purchased locally.”

Newly hired Amazon team members will receive a $1,000 signing bonus, according to KRQE.

The 465-000-square-foot fulfillment center was first announced in May 2020 with the project receiving $6.5 million from Bernalillo County for infrastructure improvements.

Amazon warehouse jobs involve picking, packing and sorting customer orders to be shipped, as stated on Amazon’s website. The company offers on-the-job learning and the ability to choose from day or night shifts.
