Georgia S. Tafoya, 96, went peacefully to be with our Lord on Sunday, June 27, 2021. She was born in Arabella, NM to Hilario and Estella (Sedillos) Sanchez.
Georgia is survived by her daughters Catherine Zamora and Ramona Tafoya. Grandchildren Nicholas Zamora (Gwen), Theresa Zamora (Luciano) and Kathleen Bustos (Daniel). Great Grandchildren, Jerome, Jaydyn, Dominic and Desiree, Brother Tony Sanchez (Judy), Son-in-Law Rene Zamora.
She is preceded in death by her parents, stepdad Sotero Sanchez, grandparents Sisto and Margarita Sedillos, Sister Natividad (Tive) Funderburk and Lawrence Tafoya.
Georgia graduated in 1945 at Hondo High School and proceeded to Albuquerque to attend the Albuquerque Business College. Georgia moved to California where she worked at the fish canneries. Upon her return to New Mexico, she married Lawrence and had their 2 children. She moved to Santa Fe in 1965 and began her career as a case worker with the New Mexico State Human Services Department which she retired from with 20 years of service. She participated with the Order of Catholic Daughters. She made sure that anyone who came into her home was well fed and had her famous tortillas and banana bread. She enjoyed reading, traveling, sewing and bingo.
