Benito “Benzo” Martinez III, 32, passed away on June 10, 2021. Benito was born November 3, 1988, in Santa Fe, New Mexico to Benito Martinez, II and Michelle Vattano.
Benito graduated from Santa Fe High School and later from New Mexico Highlands University with a bachelor’s degree in English. He taught at Highlands University, Amy Beihl Community School, and Pecos Middle School where he also coached wrestling. Ben spent many weekends as a referee at both local and out of state wrestling tournaments; he was very well respected and known in the wrestling community. Benito was a teacher, coach, mentor, artist, and successful musician where his compassion and kind spirit shone through. He cherished his family and friends.
At a very young age Benito was attracted to music and art. He had a special ear for notes and music and could pick up any instrument and compose. Ben loved teaching and would inspire other kids to make a difference in the world by often saying “Persistence, Positivity, and Passion”. Ben loved creating music, being in the outdoors, cutting wood and working hard. He loved being around family and made it a priority to keep in touch with his mother and father. Benito touched so many hearts with his kindness, charm, and the willingness to help anyone in need. Family, Faith and Education were of utmost importance to Ben.
Benito is survived by his children: Jericho Martinez and Kylie Coca, sister, Lauren Kubas; brothers, Kristian Martinez, Matteo Vattano, Angelo Vattano; his father Benito Martinez; stepmother Heather Schroeder; stepfather Stephen Vattano and Mother Michelle Vattano, many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A service will be held at Sagebrush Church, 3405 Vereda Baja, Santa Fe, New Mexico, 87507. July 1, 2021, at 12:00 pm. Funeral arrangements are being made by Berardinelli Family Funeral Service.
